We’re a few days into the month of May, which means summer is right around the corner! Your kids are nearing the end of the schoolyear and you are scrambling to find activities to occupy their empty and energetic summer schedules. Today, we want to give our busy Carteret County parents some ideas for occupying your kids this summer:
- Recreational summer camps. Throughout the summer, there are various sports, arts and science camps for your children to attend. Enroll them in various activity camps to expand their interests and keep them active. It is very easy for your kids to get into a summer rut of sitting and watching television all day, so give them an active option to keep them occupied throughout the season!
- Beach days. Living in the eastern part of North Carolina, we are fortunate to be surrounded by Earth’s natural playground: the beach! Gather some toys, snacks and your family and head out to the beautiful sandy beaches that our state has to offer. It can be easy to forget that we have a beautiful space for entertainment right outside our front (or back) doors. Utilize the warm days by taking your kids to spend some time on the beach.
- Annual events. We chat a lot about various events going on in Carteret County for adults, but there are also many events solely for children. Stay updated by checking local community calendars for fun (and often free!) events going on throughout the summer. For example, the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores hosts events almost weekly, Fort Macon State Part hosts stargazing events, and art galleries will host free art classes and seminars. Do you research and encourage your kids to get involved with the community through annual events this summer!
Summer is a beautiful time of the year, especially here in eastern North Carolina. Take advantage of the sunshine and our beautiful beaches to entertain your family during the long days of no school and constant I’m-bored’s. Taking a few minutes to sit down and schedule out your kids’ summer plans will save you time and energy in the long run.
